About Harley House
About Harley House
Harley House Supported Living is a supported living service provider, covering Northeast Essex. We promote people who have a care or support need to live independently in their own home within the community.
Supported living is a service designed to help people with a wide range of support needs retain their independence by being supported in their own home. People in supported living have their own tenancy and are responsible for their own bills and cost of living. This may include full or part furnishing and repairing any damage. To afford these, the person may be entitled to a wide range of benefits and grants. In Supported Living, support provision is not dependent on provision of housing (and vice versa.) So, if the support provider changes, this doesn’t affect the tenancy. The person has security of tenure in line with their tenancy agreement – they can only be made to leave under certain circumstances, usually by order of a court. Supported living is suited to people who require support to gain more independence to help them live in their own home. Whereas residential care is better suited for people who require specialist care around the clock.
Listen to one of our amazing individuals we support
People in supported living are responsible for their own bills and cost of living. To afford this, the person may be entitled to a wide range of benefits such as:
- Housing Benefit (HB)
- Personal Independence Payments (PIP)
- Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Mobility Allowance
- Attendance Allowance (AA.)
In supported living, people pay for their own holidays, including additional staff costs. Like anyone else, people in supported living pay their own domestic bills and shopping costs, together with costs incurred by staff in the course of the support they provide – such as bus fares and activities.
Our teams are made up of skilled, experienced staff who have specialised, in depth and ongoing training which meets both mandatory requirements as well as bespoke learning opportunities that meet the needs of the people we support.
We believe that everyone has the right to live in their own home regardless of their diagnosis, disability or level of need. Following best practice guidance, we work collaboratively with our landlord and our professional partners to ensure that people’s homes are bespoke to them allowing them to have choice and control over their lives. We then offer bespoke support packages to then enable people to live the life they want.
Our assessment process explores peoples wishes and goals and we use a strength-based approach focusing on what people can do for themselves and what they would like support with. We consider the number of hours support required, the number of staff, the gender and personal attributes the person wants from their staff team and most importantly, what the person’s goals are in life. this may be learning to budget, becoming more physically fit, going to college or accessing employment opportunities.
Person centred planning helps to guide us on how Harley House Supported Living can support each person to live as independently as possible. From this, we have created person-centred plans that are dedicated to what the individual chooses to do, what timescale they require or goals/aspirations for their future and how we can set out to achieve it. Even if an individual has communication difficulties, we use a variety of different communication tools, so they can still be involved in developing their personal plan. Our aim is, we want every person we support in our services to live a happy and exciting life with positive outcomes.
Maximising Choice, Control & Independence
We aim to make a real difference to everyone’s life by embedding our company’s values into our practice by providing each individual with the right support: maximising their choice, control and independence.
